The Academic Calendar of the college is designed to provide a clear and well-organized schedule of academic and co-curricular activities throughout the year. It acts as a roadmap for students and faculty, ensuring that teaching, learning, examinations and other institutional activities are carried out in a smooth and timely manner. The academic session generally begins in July and concludes in June of the following year. The entire academic year is divided into two terms, but the final assessment is conducted through yearly examinations, as per the guidelines of the affiliating university. Each academic year includes approximately 180 working days, excluding holidays, vacation breaks and examination periods.
Classes commence in the month of July, followed by regular teaching sessions, internal assessments, tutorials and practical training where applicable. The teaching-learning process continues till the end of March or early April, after which preparatory leave is given to students before the annual examinations. These examinations are held between April and May, covering all subjects taught during the academic year. Internal assessments and class tests are conducted periodically during the year to help students revise topics and identify areas of improvement. The results of annual exams are usually declared in June and students who qualify are promoted to the next academic year or awarded degrees upon completion of the final year.
The academic calendar also includes schedules for class tests, viva-voce, project submissions, legal research work and internships, especially for students enrolled in professional law programs like B.A. LL.B. and LL.B. These components are essential for skill development and are completed before the final examination. The college observes all major national holidays and provides designated breaks for Durga Puja, Diwali, Winter Vacation and Summer Vacation. Important national events such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Constitution Day and Law Day are celebrated with active participation from students and staff.
In addition to academics, the calendar highlights co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as moot court competitions, legal aid clinics, sports events, cultural programs, NSS activities and guest lectures by legal professionals. These activities are scheduled across the year to promote overall personality development and enhance practical exposure. Students are encouraged to take part in these events without hampering their academic progress.
The college follows the academic guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). Any changes in the academic calendar, such as in the case of emergencies or official holidays declared by the government, are notified to students through the college notice board and website. The calendar is prepared before the start of each academic year and shared with all departments to ensure uniformity and coordination. It is reviewed and updated annually to incorporate feedback from faculty and students. By maintaining a well-structured academic calendar, the college strives to promote regularity, discipline and academic excellence while also creating opportunities for meaningful student engagement beyond the classroom.
